From the book "Be Your Future Self Now" by Dr. Benjamin Hardy:
"17-year-old Jimmy Donaldson recorded 4 YouTube videos...Jimmy invited his audience [on Youtube] to sit in on the intimate and vulnerable conversations he had with himself. In the first segment, Jimmy spoke to his future self 6 months into the future, in the 2nd video, he talked to his future self 12 months into the future, in the 3rd, 5 years, and in the 4th, 10 years. Each video lasted 2 minutes, nothing crazy. Jimmy was completely raw and honest about what he wanted and expected of himself. He scheduled each clip to be published in exactly 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, and 10 years. 6 months later, on April 4th, the video went live on his channel..."
The result? By the 12-month video, Jimmy had increased his subscribers 10x from his 6-month video with over 200k subscribers, with his alter-ego, Mr. Beast. Within a few years, he was the fastest-growing YouTube star making millions of dollars.
What's the lesson here?
Jimmy, now Mr. Beast, used this public accountability as his "burning the boats" - he had no return to the safety of changing or making his goals easier to hit. And with that level of commitment, he transformed himself into his future self to exceed those goals.
So, as you set goals - try something new and bold - declare those goals publicly. Whatever degree of public feels uncomfortable to you!

Accountability Group
With the spirit of sharing goals publicly, I launched Potencia's first Accountability Group - a cohort that meets to share our goals and identify actions we want to be held accountable for to achieve those goals. For privacy, I don't have a picture.
Sharing our goals with colleagues was really empowering, albeit a bit vulnerable. But letting people in, having others take an interest in what I'm up to, and asking for help further solidified that these goals were real and I am committed to them. Now there is no question, this is where I'm going and I have a band of colleagues who are part of my team to help.
From this group, everyone is getting excited about how we can support each other and the amount of energy generated was really exciting and gratifying. Can't wait to report back more!
Potencia will be launching Cohort 2 of the Accountability Group, to be decided when...
Sharing My Goals for 2025 (Publicly!)
This year, I decided on the theme Depth, in 3 areas: (1) Depth of love and relationships; (2) Depth of expertise; and (3) Depth of self-expression. I sense there is way more to explore about my inner thoughts, subconscious, fears, insecurities, longings, emotions, intuition, and creativity. This is an inner exploration more than an outward one, which is definitely out of my comfort zone.
A few (somewhat) tangible goals for me for each (in priority order):
Deepen my Love and Relationships - Nurture the new relationship with my partner
(Secondary goal) Deepen my capacity to give love to myself and others, and accept love from others
Deepen expertise in Coaching - Achieve International Coaching Federation Accredited Coach Certification (ACC) and Positive Intelligence (PQ) Coach Certification
(Secondary Goal) Sell at least 4 group deals this year and/or make $20,000 in revenue
(Tertiary goal) Maintain the sales habits I’ve committed to on a weekly and monthly basis to build the business
Deepen my Self-Expression - Take up dance, singing and/or French Horn, whichever helps me express my creative and emotional energy
(Secondary goals) Express my needs and make requests more; start swimming or playing volleyball/pickleball regularly
My advice in 2025 on setting goals is the following:
Access your Wisdom first: Do a contemplation, if not visualization, of looking back from the end of your life. Use that to access your inner wisdom and avoid using your overly rational brain
This exercise had me create my goal #3 – I listened to my wisdom that I needed more of an outlet to express myself artistically and physically
Listen to your Gut: Goals should feel self-concordant – like they hit your gut - they matter, they are motivating, and you are committed. Don’t allow outside influence, comparison, judgment, or “should” in.
If you aren’t moved naturally toward your goals, try again!
No more than 3: I’m telling you, the rule of 3 is a thing. Don’t go over it. In fact, better to be 2. You won’t be able to keep all your goals in mind and balance them. Simplify and reduce. You can always add more later!
Share your Goals: Share your goals as publicly as you can! Especially with people who can work with you to hold yourself accountable. Working towards something is way better when you’re with others!

If you want to talk through your goals, let's chat :) Here’s to an amazing 2025!
For Learning and With Love,
Chris
